Tege turned 5 on 6/6/06..
Here, he and Ry check out the birthday cake, specifically the candles. We sang a quick round of the Happy Birthday song and let the boys (Ry got to help) blow out the candles.
Then, we had to relight the candles half a dozen times so Ry could blow them out again and again…
Our annual “celebrate birthdays” cookout is this weekend and a cold (just a little chilly) front has rolled through brining with it some rainy weather. Drat. Thankfully, we have some nice canopies and should be able to keep dry.

My birthday was 2 weeks ago - we had a nice day. Â Bob took me to lunch at my favorite restaurant, J. Alexander’s.
Came home for some tasty cake:

The girls and grandma helped the boys make stepping stones for me:

They also gave me another stepping stone kit to make a stone for Jordan Riley, since her birthday was the Saturday before Mother’s Day.

I thought about posting a Happy Birthday to Ry last week, and just didn’t do it.
Ry turned 2 on May 5th. I can hardly believe he’s already 2! We had a quiet day, just doing stuff around the house. Emily made him a cake and we sang the Happy Birthday song.. which had him all smiles and bashfulness.
I have cake pictures - I’ll add to flickr soon.

I took Ry and Tege to the big box Toys R Us to find a gift or two… As soon as we walked in, Ry picked up a small bottle of scented bubbles. We eventually walked all over the store, up and down each isle. Ry even got belly-down on the ground to play with a couple toys. They just aren’t so easy to play with inside the box with twist ties all over everything. Each toy, he’d finally say “Done” and point back to the shelf.
Even Tege didn’t pick anything out. So we left the store with 1 small bottle of bubbles and 2 mini-M&M tubes.
We usually have a cookout late in May or early June to celebrate all the May/June birthdays. Tege’s is early June and Em’s is late May. We always looks forward to a family gathering.

I’ve been dragging the past few days. I thought it may be the dreary weather. Or maybe it’s my hermit-like lifestyle and I’m just lonesome. Last night doing dishes, staring out at the bog-backyard, I realized maybe it had something to do with a birthday that goes uncelebrated… at least in traditional way.
Jordan Riley was our first and only baby girl together. She died, for unknown reasons, when I was 36 weeks pregnant and born almost a week later. It was the day before Mother’s Day, May 13th…
I talked to Tege about it today. He thinks it’s neat having a sister hanging out on the Rainbows with our dogs Calvin, Bailey and our recent baby bunny loss (a wild bunny that Cas nursed for a day before it died.. it was very hurt)…
It’s sad when no one remembers. But I don’t blame them. I have a hard enough time remembering birthdays outside my immediate family… let alone remembering a lost pregnancy. It is nice when some do though. Thank you for the nice thoughts. :)
Ahh.. well… Happy Birthday Jordan!
