My Space & My Dog Space

by Judi on Jul 3, 2008

I’ve not been much into .. not sure why not, but I just don’t do much with it. Don’t get me wrong.. I do have a myspace.. maybe I just don’t have enough friends to make me want to go. Oh well.. whatever. I’m there, been there.. a while.

So the other day, I was visiting a breed specific forum and someone there had a link to a place.. I followed the link, thought it was a neat idea and joined. Let me tell you.. this particular community site was so difficult.. if you have more than one , you have to register each and to register, you must log out, sign up again using a different email address. I have 4 dogs… so if I want to add each of my dogs, I need to enter 4 different emails (yeah, this is fun).. then, if I want to update something, I must log into each specific account. Way too much trouble for me.. and to top it off.. there is *no* search feature.. so I’m there to make friends with other people, so off my dogs, brag on others but I can’t even search for a specific breed, or people close to me in vicinity. Bleck.

Needless to say, I quickly forgot the name of that site and the next day did a quick google for space.. and what did I come across by a My Space for dogs (and they even have one for cats!).. and they are affiliated with . So.. if you have dogs (or cats) and want to create a nice little page for ALL your dogs.. search for others (many different criteria), make friends, vote on cuteness and so much more.. come check it out… and add your doggy (or kitty) profile to your . ;)

Here are my doggie profiles on .com. You can view my doggie photos, blogs and much more. (I have an , and a )

Olivia the Apricot Pygmy Hedgehog

This tiny apricot is my newest addition to our family. Actually, she’s been in the family for the last year (since January 2007) when Cas bought her from a breeder.. at the time she was about 6 weeks old.

Cas took really good care of her for a long time, but in the past recent months, I started noticing that Cas had too many things on her plate and I offered to try to find Olivia a home.

But… ssshhh.. don’t tell Bob… I think I’ll just keep her. She’s starting to get use to me.. letting me rub her toes clean, feeding her treats and rubbing her belly.

Plus, *loves* Olivia - although I haven’t figured out if it’s an I’d love to lick you because I want to be friends, or I’d love to lick you because I wonder how tasty you’d be… I don’t know…

See more pictures of Olivia during (so far these are the best pics I have been able to get of this nocturnal pyggy, er I mean, ).

Grant Park Hike

Took the boys and the dogs for a walk at the other day. is a leash puller, so Bob was really having to hold her back. I think she’s been use to having the whole back yard to run and play, at her leisure. Being put on a leash was limiting.

She had a good time. She walked through the creek, but didn’t really seem all that in to playing in the water. Which was ok with me, since I didn’t really prepare for wet in my van.

was in to walking a bit. She had fun. She tromped right through the water like she isn’t part cat (as in, this particular is so *not* a water ). Surprised me. I expected her to daintily (not that she’s prissy, but when it comes to water…) walk across the rocks.

The boys had fun playing and got to play in the creek throwing rocks. The creek was a little low though. We saw some small fish, and the water smelled real fishy… not like when it’s fuller and moving along.

Later though, when we were the absolute furthest from the car, got bit by an aggressive, territorial wasp. I was so mad. He’d just taken his hat off, had gone down the slide, and was going back for one more ride before we were going to start walking back.. and the dang thing came right down and got him on the head. He’s such a trooper.. cried how it hurt, but man, he’s one tough little guy. At home, we put ice on it.. but it was a tough ride home.

Aussie & Whippet Life - Dog So Smart

by Judi on Aug 8, 2007

… whose name change of “missy” did not take (we decided she does know her name, but like the , has selective hearing - or rather, selectively comes when she feels like it)… has blended into our family nicely… a few bumps along the way, but overall, it’s been a piece of cake.

is a protective and has claimed us, and the house, as “hers”. Not only is she protective, she’s also possessive, namely, it seems, of me… when comes close, hops up (quickly!) and slides right under my feet or chair (tag - I’ve been claimed). The first few times, this came along with a low growl… a few times of telling her that wasn’t OK and it seems to have done the trick, as I haven’t heard any growling towards at all. Of course, it probably helped the other day when snapped at her as if to say “look, I didn’t ask for you to get in my face, step back”… listened.

and Maggie Cat have taken in stride… a little timid at first, tolerant of ’s possessiveness… and a little hissing and spitting from the Cat… all is good. While each party wouldn’t yet claim the other as a ‘friend’, I’d say we’re on our way.

As an aside, take a gander at Dog-So-Smart for breed information, adoption, rescue, and just being owners in general.
