Toshiba A75 Laptop problems continue
- by Judi on Feb 18, 2006
I haven’t written about my toshiba woes for the past few months. Not because they have been resolved, but to save my own sanity.
In November/December, I had more problems with it shutting down. I fought for almost 2 weeks on the phone, for them to replace it. I called every day, a few times a day.. and finally was backed against a wall - told to send it back to them. I did… and for 2 weeks I was told it had been “rejected”, as in, they hadn’t received it… finally they get it, “fix” it and send it back.Â
I don’t know why I even bother any more… but it shut down again within a couple weeks of having it back. Not like I was surprised. Then it did it again last week. Just two days or so after the expiration of the 90 day warranty for the “refurbished” unit (again, I should have been under warranty through April of this year (2006) with my NEW laptop…… ). After some grumbling from me, they shipped a box to me to send it back. I did and received it in about 5 days (including the weekend!)… with a form saying it checked out OK. As in “no problems”. Sure, Ok.. and why did randomly shut down on me then? Whatever. I see I’m getting nothing from Toshiba willingly. I’ll wait for the lawsuits to finish up and hope to get enough to buy a nice dinner somewhere.
I’m amazed though, at the traffic that comes in to Momma Muse, strictly on searches about Toshiba A75 problems.Â
In response to this post Satellite A75 - National Class Action Attorneys :: Toshiba - I received this comment - Brooks going through the same ordeal as many others.
Is ANYONE having any good resolutions from Toshiba? Have any of these laptops actually been fixed, as in no more problems?Â

I’m mexican, I have the same laptop and the same problem. Actually, I have to take it to the service center today, but it won’t be the first time.
I bought it in march last year, and since the very first week it used to shut down randomly. I had to warranties: a 90 day for a physical change and a 1 year warranty for repairs, this last one is about to expire.
I took it to where I bought it and they made the physical change. The new lap worked well for a few months, but, in october I started to have 2 serious problems. The first one: the screen displayed a green line on it, second: it started to shut down again and again. I took it to the service center, and when I got it back (2 or 3 weeks later) it seemed to work well again. BUT since the last weeks, it is having the same problem again (not the one on the screen, my display is ok now).
Searching on the internet, I found this forum: http://www.yoreparo.com/foros/reparacion_de_portatiles/soluciones/53113.html, (in spanish) and there I found that it is a problem in common for all toshibas, and it is because the processor gets too hot. It seems that the system to cool the processor in these computers is bullsh**… (sorry about that, but I’m madly in anger)
Toshiba won’t give any real solutions to costumers in any country, but at least I’ve learned this: DON’T BUY TOSHIBA if you don’t want to trash your money away.
“DON’T BUY TOSHIBA if you don’t want to trash your money away. ”

I have the same laptop and the same problems. It was two months out of warranty. Toshiba says they can’t help me because of the class action lawsuit. So I’m waiting on a resolution to the lawsuits too. And I now have a Dell……
Judi,
THANK YOU for posting about your laptop woes!! I was in the proces sof shopping around for one and remembered all of the problems you had with yours this past winter. I looked up what you had and made sure to stay away from that brand! I am now the proud owner of a Dell and can’t wait til it gets here.
I hope you get yours taken care of soon!!
I purchased a A75-S206 and have had an overheating problem from the beginning. Toshiba replaced some parts, but never fixed the real problem and as a result my laptop has been in for repair several times now. I have the same warranty problem, it expired and now I have to take it into Compusa because that is where my extended warranty is. My extended warranty is going to expire soon as well, and then I’m stuck flipping the bill everytime this thing starts overheating and shutting down. Toshiba is waiting for the lawsuit and will not help me with service or replacement. Who ever heard of a company that doesn’t have a refund/replacement policy? Does anyone know who to contact to get in on this lawsuit? Toshiba says I don’t have to do anything, that I will automatically be a participant because of purchasing the laptop, but I don’t trust them. I know there is usually some paperwork involved in class action suits. Thanks for listening and good luck to you all. Maybe we should stage a protest against Toshiba products if they don’t compensate us fairly.
Hi, it’s just me again. I found a website put out by a laptop repair guy with info. and instructions on Toshiba laptop problems and how to fix them yourself if anyone is interested. There are two websites. Just type in laptop repair guy and you will see info. on Toshiba problems and repairs. For disassembly and repair instructions go to tech.irisvista.com.
GOOD LUCK!!!
I own a toshiba, has probs, trying to fix myself. I have a Dell too. It has had its share of problems, keyboard, case around screen, usb ports and the hindges on it broke the lcd case. Had to replace it. All laptops have problems of some kinds. I have known many people who have the same Toshiba laptop and they have never had problems.
The squeaky wheel does indeed get the grease. Last week I said, SHAME ON YOU TOSHIBA, but now I have to say: Thanks, Toshiba!
After posting on every forum I could find discussing these Satellite problems; after filing a complaint with the BBB (and listing the CORPORATE OFFICES for the address) and filing with the Attorney General of my state; after calling Toshiba for the past 2 years with a multitude of problems from overheating to (now) the power jack and usb port connections; after signing up with the class action suits; after calling their corporate offices complaining about not being able to get a direct number for “customer relations” (does it even exist?):
this morning I got a call from Toshiba’s corporate offices saying they are going to send me a pre-paid box to ship my computer (overnight) to them and they will work on it (over the weekend) and get it back to me fully fixed and cleaned - AT NO CHARGE. Even though my computer is out of warranty.
So the squeaky wheel does indeed get the grease. To be fair, I just want to follow up my complaints with the results and say Thank you Toshiba.
Donna - glad to hear you were finally able to get Toshiba to do something for you. I’m curious to know how things have gone since getting your computer back.
Toshiba did just what you said, several times, for me… prepaid box, completely “fixed” my laptop.. and even once out of warranty. However, with the particular model I have, there truly is not *fix* for it.
I had a number to customer service (as did many other) and were in contact with Eray and a handful of other CS employees.. I was told repeatedly to send my computer back to them (free) and they’d fix it…… after a total of 7 times of getting my computer fixed, I’ve packed in a box in the bottom of my closet, were it sits, useless.
The problem comes down to the particular models (A70, A75) are defective and Toshiba isn’t going to reimburse many poeple for their own defective product. I hope they held true to you and your computer actually works.
I, for one, won’t ever buy another Toshiba product regardless of how incredible the product is, there customer service and the fact that they willingly sold, and won’t compensate, for defective product is enough to keep me away for good.
Same laptop, same problem.
I’ve had my A75 laptop for 19 months now, and have had to have it serviced FOUR TIMES for the same problem. Shutting down unexpectedly. And guess what?? It’s still happening.
Listen to how badly Toshiba treated me.
I was told the second time I brought my computer in for service at one of their authorized service centers that my internet connection was “broken”. I told them i had no problem getting online so I wasn’t sure what they meant. They replied that I had a crack in my system board which might effect me getting online at some point and if it did become a problem, to let them know since they had a work-around they could do for $100.00.
Now, on the FOURTH time I brought my laptop in because it was shutting down unexpectedly, the service center called and said Toshiba was going to charge me $525.00. I was absolutely astounded! It seems that Toshiba had decided the system board was causing the shut down problem and since mine was crecked they wouldn’t be able to resell it and get any money for it so they were charging ME for it. I told the tech that the ONLY reason my computer was in for service was because of Toshiba’s defect and that I was having no other problems. The computer wouldn’t even be there if they had made their product correctly since I was using it just fine, other than the damn shut downs. (Sorry. But boy, are we getting screwed by Toshiba!)
AND if I did start having problems getting online with it, it was only going to cost $100.00.0
Well you guessed it. No luck. Unless I paid the money, I wouldn’t get my computer fixed. I was fuming like you wouldn’t believe.
The worst part is that the board wasn’t even the problem since it’s ONCE AGAIN shutting down on me unexpectedly.
And I haven’t even gone into the difficulty dealing with their customer service. That’s a total nightmare.
Never, ever…….EVER purchase a Toshiba.
I learned the hardway and I’m telling everyone I know.
I suggest you do the same.
Wow - I can’t believe how many folks are having heat-up, shut-down problems with Toshibas. But at least they DO shut down as opposed to getting hotter and hotter ..
I have the same problem with my 1 1/2 yr old A70. Started about 5 months after I purchased it, and put it down to a lot of graphics on this one particular game. But I now know it was overheating. (COULD be faulty fans too.) I prop the back on a pocket book to improve air flow.
Now, other than price and weight, what should I look for in a new one. Has to have an excellent graphics card.
Hello everyone, I too have had extensive trouble with my toshiba laptop, and the customer service was even worse. So it got to the point where I made a blog and i encourage everyone here to write me email regarding their problems and I’ll invite you to post on the blog. I feel that if we act as a collective and are able to infom as many people as possible then we will have hit toshiba in the spot where they care about the most. I have left my email here, and a link to the blog. I hope to hear from you all soon, during the holiday season, and hopefully we can get enough traffic to the site where it will be the first link when entered into google.

Have a good one everyone and happy holidays
I’m another Toshiba a75 owner with chronic overheating and shutting down problems. Now the last two service calls have included the “blue screen of death” which makes the PC inoperable. I’m wondering whether anyone has filed a lawsuit separate from the class action, because I received a notice that it would cover either $25 towards a new Toshiba or a one-year warranty extension, which is outrageous.
I am the proud owner of not just one but TWO Toshiba Laptops. Both have had their small share of repairs, but they are great. The only problem is with the A75 that has the shutdown/overheating problem.
I have discovered that it is just a problem with the fans. After a while of being used they start spinning off center and slow down the air flow. I replaced the fans and it works great.
One of my friends had bought the same laptop as mine, and his overheating problem was due to the fact that he had the airflow blocked when he put it on his lap. Word of advice to some of you, that may be the same problem. Also, try getting one of those laptop cooling pads for $20.
If you really need to get it repaired, and your warranty is still active, find a 4 or 5 star Toshiba certified, laptop repair center.
For those of you who have had problems with Toshibas, thats too bad, but they really do make great laptops.
Oh, and if you really want to get a new laptop that isn’t toshiba… get HP or Acer…never dell (they only have good desktops) or Sony.
Im another Toshiba A75 hater. randomly shutting down, its ridiculous, I have never ever had this many problems with a computer and will never buy another toshiba thats for sure.
Same problem with my A75’s, I would smash them, but I have Office, Adobe 7.0, Photoshop ect…
A P.O.S computer with $thousands$ in software loaded on em… And the real funny thing is, I own a company that has 5 of these Pieces of #.. never again.
same for me. system freezes or shuts down with out warning, what’s up with that??
i hear there’s a class act law suit. where and how do i join. just cost me $170. to have system fixed. I’m pissed
