I've never heard of a computer that is so clearly defective. Mine has had similar problems as everyone else's- overheating, and shutting down randomly (sometimes 20+ times per day). It also needed the ac jack replaced, and only charged the battery when turned off. If the battery was in the computer while turned on, it would run on the battery rather than ac power. It worked okay for a few months initially, but then was completely unreliable. Sometimes I had to wait a whole day for it to be able to turn back on. I thought it was completely gone a few years ago (it wouldn't turn on even after waiting a week) but I tried turning it on recently and it works now. I also got a new battery and ac adapter (both about $20 each on Ebay) which has helped a bit. It still overheats, crashes, and randomly starts running on batter power while plugged in though. This stupid thing has caused me so much trouble. During college, I actually had to drop a compsci class because it kept crashing and losing all of my work. I must have done one project 4 times on this (I needed software not available to me anywhere else). If anyone hears that it gets recalled, as it should have been years ago, please let us know! But it has been a nightmare trying to find an attorney... Toshibas lawyers have been in contact with me... I have all the fire reports, investigative reports, photos, documentation, etc organized... And I have made several calls to different law firms who might take the case, but no one will call me back...
